Linux with two network connections as VirutalBox VM host: Can I exclusively route VM traffic over one device?
I am trying to do something admittedly a bit exotic: I have a Linux box with VirtualBox on it. This Linux box has an integrated network card and a USB WiFi device. In order to test a few things, I'd like to have a VirtualBox guest that exclusively uses the WiFi device over a VPN, and to have the host use the network card over a different VPN. Now the easy solution would be to just give the USB WiFi dongle to the VM (as USB device, not as network device) and let the VM load the drivers, connect to the router and setup the VPN. However, if this is a minimal system that is not capable of dealing with the USB device, is there a different way? Can I ifup the WiFi dongle as a second network card on the host, tell openvpn to start the vpn over that device, tell the host not to route any traffic over that device, and give it to the guest as bridged adapter? Does any of this even make sense, or do I fundamentally misunderstand networking? In either case, I'd be very grateful for pointers (even if it's just "what you are looking for is called XXX, google that").
