Normal.mod isn't in in /boot/grub/

0

So I have been trying to setup linux for 2 days now on my friends computer but it just seems to be a problem with grub not running at launch. He finally got Ubuntu to install correctly and now when he launches his computer it takes him to GRUB Rescue. He has found the partition where linux is installed which is (hd1, msdos7). He navigates into root and there is a GRUB folder. He enters there but normal.mod isn't in it. I have looked around and was not able to find a case where the file didn't exist at all. I am sorry for my lack of understanding of linux beforehand.
